If You Can’t Count To Ten

When you’re about to say something stupid…

Count to ten.

If you can’t count to ten…at least count to three.

But chances are if you can count to three you can probably count to ten too.

So if you’re the type of person who can count at all, then every second you count instead of speak, your response gets smarter.

***I know this doesn’t really have to do with the music business…except that there’s a lot of stupid stuff that gets said in this business…we can all get better at contributing better conversations.

Hey Alexa, Play Booty Booty Tutu...

…playlist.

That’s not a playlist. Not yet anyway. But it’s really fun to say out loud.  Go ahead, say it :)

And that’s going to be important in the near future…playlist names that are fun to say out loud.

(Also going to be popular, playlists with very practical names like…Alexa, play the Doing The Dishes playlist).

We like saying fun things.

And saying fun and funny things to a robot (Alexa, Siri, Google) makes them even more fun and funny.

It’s all going to be voice command soon enough, and it turns out what we like to say is different from what we like to type.

And how we think about typing to find music is different from what we speak to find music.

There’s a ton of great playlist names out there (that are really fun to say out loud) for the taking right now that in three or five years you might “wish I had thought of that”.

Start now. It’ll pay off later.

Booty Booty Tutu.

Don’t Forget About Joy

I know it’s been passed around a ton, but I need to share it just in case this ends up being the email that causes you to watch it…

Paul McCartney on James Corden Carpool Karaoke

Paul is so famous. The most famous.  So famous that James Corden (and anyone else who has ever interviewed him) has to let down his own cool factor.  You can’t out famous Paul. You can’t out cool Paul.

And with that, James turns into me, he turns into you. James is all of us and Paul is Paul McCartney. So we’re basically watching ourselves do carpool karaoke with Paul.  What a thrill. And it’s so joyful.

That’s what Paul trades on now: joy.  He’s the master….and you can’t help but be changed by joy.

So this isn’t a lesson on how to give joy to your fans and make money and build a career and write the next Hey Jude (although I hope you do)…it’s a reminder to simply receive the joy.

More Clapping

Clapping is a reminder, but not necessarily the sole indicator, that you gave something.

Clapping is one response to giving, but

Loud clapping doesn’t necessarily mean you gave more…as it could just be the amount of alcohol they consumed.

No clapping (or not-as-loud clapping) doesn’t necessarily mean you gave less…as I’ve never clapped while watching a sun set.

Stay focused on the giving. Walk off stage knowing you gave your message.  Be relentless at refining your message to connect even better with your people.

Clapping or no clapping, loud clapping or finger snapping, they’re there. They’re in the room. They chose to be in the room.

Give.

They’ll probably say thank you by clapping.

And you can say you’re welcome by making sure you gave a good show.

Pertaining To The Interviews...

Pertaining to the interviews you do…

The question(s) opens the door.

Your answer isn’t meant to shut the door but to provoke people to want keep going to further in.

It ain’t the information business. It’s the entertainment business, baby.
