Informative. Interesting. Entertaining.

When you’re a band or artist being asked questions in an interview, your answers will be a combination of the following:

Informative

Interesting

Entertaining

Informative is the easiest ingredient and it is pretty bland unto itself. Interesting means you’re digging and have some intuition. Entertaining is the most elusive and hardest to get good at.

It’s worth getting better. After all, this is the entertainment business.

Timeless and Timely

Painting your daughters bedroom bright pink isn’t timeless…but it sure is timely.

And timely can go a long way.

It doesn’t do a lot of good to reason with your child that pink just doesn’t make sense because in a few years you’re going to have to repaint it something a little more timeless when you sell the house.

Taking care of someone in a timely way can be pretty timeless.

Also…I was reminded this weekend about a post I wrote a while back about not giving up. It’s a pretty good story.

Making It Fun To Show Up

Synth patches and drum loops make it a lot more fun to show up for the writing session.

Coffee and donuts make it fun to show up too.

So does a good view or a well decorated studio.

Or an excited presence.

A warm spirit.

A deep soul.

What do you bring that makes it fun for the others to show up?

Walking On Easy Street...

Doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve succeeded.

Not all happiness comes from things being easy.

More ease doesn’t necessarily lead to more ease.

It’s not going to always be easy. We got things like the moon landing and the climactic moment in Rudy from people acknowledging and seeking out the hard parts. By pushing through when no one knew if the pain would lead to the desired result.

Embrace the pain and difficulty. It’s a sign you’re on the right track.

More Difficulty...

Doesn’t necessarily lead to a better result.

Not all pressure creates diamonds.

More suffering doesn’t necessarily lead to more reward.

Sometimes you just gotta let it be easy.

It doesn’t always have to be difficult. There’s going to be plenty of difficulty without you adding more of it because you think you’ve cracked the code to success.

When it comes easy let it be easy.
