Meant For Something Not Everything

Be very clear with yourself (and your team) about what your social media channels are for. That way when you’re at a social media crossroads you’ll already know what to do.

Your channels weren’t made to be for everything. They weren’t made and designed in a way for the world to experience every facet of who you are and what you do.

So if they’re not made for everything, you have to choose what you’re going to leave out and what you’re going to put in.

The ironic thing is…the quicker and better you can answer this question, the quicker and better we can get to know you and be remain connected.

»» The more specific and consistent the better.

Visionary

It may be that you don’t need to be a visionary.

It may be that you’re the kind of person who, rather, recognizes the potential in someone else’s solid vision and decides to lead the charge for that vision. Perhaps being the part owner or CEO instead of the founder is where you will thrive.

Having a keen eye for a visionary’s vision is a rare a valuable skill.

The Song Always Gets Over

First Monday of the month means new Hum Love playlist on Spotify and Apple.

It’s ten new songs each month. The old ones get added to the Hum Love Archive playlist.

We can’t make the magic feeling last forever. But with the the right track at the right time, it’s there. It’s so familiar and so elusive. We wrap ourselves in that chorus and never want to leave.

But the song always gets over. So we have to keep going. Keep writing, keep listening, keep our eye out for the magic to return.

Enthusiasm

What do you do with enthusiasm? When you or someone you’re working with brings enthusiasm to the table…

Is it fostered

Is it entertained

Is it trusted

Is it too childish to be trusted

Is it merely put up with

Do people get on board

Do the others squash it and move on

Is it taken seriously

I’m sure in your experience is a mix of all of these…but enthusiasm is a gift to the person who has it and when they share it, it’s a gift to the group.

I Want It To Sound Like This

This gets said many times in the studio and is followed up with a reference to another sound or song.

But there’s confusion…

By ‘like this’ do you mean you want it to sound similar?

Or do you mean this is exactly how you want it to sound?

Often it’s the second one cloaked in the first.

An artist isn’t going to come out and say they want to copy a snare sound or guitar sound…But then they’ll want to keep tweaking it until it sounds exactly like their reference.

‘I want it to sound like this’ is really helpful when everyone knows what you mean by it.

New vs. Rehash

Recounting the steps and stories of your journey on a podcast or interview doesn’t add a new chapter to the journey.

Telling your story isn’t necessarily the same thing as adding to it. And adding to it is far more important to your career than recounting it.

The goal is to redirect the interview into a building block rather than just another rehash of where you’ve been.
