Coming Home

If you never leave home you’ll never experience the joy of coming home.

In the work that I do I get to come home a lot…cause I leave a lot.

When the skyline comes into view driving on 24 or 40 or 65…there’s a new type appreciation that comes into view too.

It feels better to come home than to never leave home at all.

»» It’s probably an appropriate time to add this…some people in this industry leave too much and for too long and aren’t at home when they’re at home. The road is a tricky thing. So are relationships. So take the above message for the optimism it suggests…but remember the road was never meant to be your everything.

License Plate Frames

The problem with license plate frames is that when the frame was designed, it wasn’t made with your car in mind.

It’s a cool frame…flames or jewels or neon green or some wacky font and messaging…but how well does it actually work with your car, your color, the actual license plate colors?

The designer has to be content with simply coming up with the frame while never getting to take into consideration where it might be on display. No control over context.

When you make your thing how much control do you have over the context for which it’s experienced?

Energy Call

You had a really taxing day at work so you’re driving home to eat dinner and relax.

And then you get a call.

Your good friend needs your help picking up a washer dryer combo that he bought off of craigslist. So you go. Upon completing the task you hang for a while at catch up with your pal while he serves up some comfort food for a job well done.

There’s something about being called upon that gives us the necessary energy to come through.

We don’t have the energy. Then we get the call. Then we have the energy.

A Boss That Is...

Easy to work with.

This gets said for two main reasons.

The boss is passive.

The boss is clear.

The passive boss is cool with you leaving early, extending deadlines, maintaining rather than excellence and enjoys giving the ‘freedom’ that comes from very little accountability. Easy to work with.

The clear boss knows how to get everyone on the same page and pointed in the same direction, expects excellence because that’s what we all agreed to, respects you enough to maintain solid accountability, understands that whether we succeed or fail we’ll do it together and is willing to have difficult conversations even when it’s…difficult.
