No one knows the exact kind of attention you want.

So if you want it, you’re going to need to ask for it…and give others a lot of grace and patience in their response.

We idealize fame because we see it as a level where people will finally treat us how we’ve always wanted to be treated…when really fame just means you get a lot of attention…but go back and read the first line of this post…no one knows the kind of attention you’ve always dreamed of. So you’ll get quantity but not your brand of quality.

We do our best to give the people closest to us the type of attention they want. It’s not exact but it’s probably in the ballpark most of the time. The attention we give, out of love and care, is needed and is always a good thing even if it can’t be everything.

New Favorite Shirt

A new favorite shirt is rare. It’s hard to even go looking for a new favorite shirt. A favorite shirt checks all the boxes and more…the look, feel, colors, cut, sleeve length, sleeve circumference.

But the person who finds a new favorite shirt is the person who has their eye out. They know it’s unlikely but they take a stroll through the mall or the boutique or buy a few things online knowing it might all get sent back.

Most people aren’t looking or hoping for a new favorite shirt. They have a few they like and are in the market for a few more like those ones.

And then there’s a group of people who will wear whatever shows up. Whatever their Aunt Sally got them for Christmas. Whatever is in the swag bag. If it’s a shirt with a neck hole and some sleeves then it’ll work.

Ice Fishing

If you go out ice fishing and aren’t catching anything you get really cold.

But you don’t get cold if you’re catching fish.

It’s not the motion of catching the fish that generates the heat to keep you warm. Rather, it’s the excitement of catching the fish that keeps you warm.

You might be in a cold season. And when the cold sets in it takes over. It’s the only thing you can think about. But then you switch from worms to leaches and you get a nibble and then a bite and then a fish…

It’s still cold but now you’ve got some heat.
