We can make a choice to make our work the worthwhile kind. The interactions we have, the effort and care we put forth, our dedication, the passion we bring with us, the encouragement we give. Every day can be worthwhile.
But just because it’s worthwhile work doesn’t make it profound work.
Profound work is uncovered when we commit to worthwhile work and consistently put in the effort to make work worthwhile.
Take a little time.
There’s way more going on in your favor than you can know. In fact the list of things you know that are going in your favor is quite short compared to the good things that you don’t know that are circling your orbit at varied distances.
We don’t know what we don’t know but we know that what we don’t know is way bigger than what we know.
So with that knowledge in tow, we can work on what’s in front of us with great confidence, joy and humility…and the miracles are on their way.
There are two main types when we say, ‘this is a terrible idea’.
1. This is really hard, really risky and if it doesn’t work we can’t try again. Probably not a great idea.
2. This is really hard, risky, thankless, expensive, long hours and way more work than we can comprehend…but if it works we’ll be right where we want to be. So it’s a terrible great idea worth exploring.
And there’s a third…
3. This is going to be fast, easy and we’re going to get rich. A truly terrible idea. .
When we see the diploma it’s hard to tell what most of the words actually say because it’s written in the hard to read diploma font. But we know that font means business. It means achievement and status and value. We don’t need to know the words because we know the font.
So it’s worth asking…What if it was written in Curlz instead?
How would that feel? Why does it matter? Should it matter?
If you want to make someone feel a certain way it’s worth figuring out how that feeling has been given before. Curlz is a bad way to make someone feel important, regardless of what you think about it.
»» It might seem a little crazy that the shape and style and size of a font can steer our emotions and identity so easily…so it might be tempting to fight against this notion or have the attitude of ‘ahh, it doesn’t matter’…but just because you don’t want it to matter doesn’t mean it doesn’t.
The thrill of hearing about it for the first time.
The thrill of learning a little bit more about it.
The thrill of wanting it.
The thrill of having the money for it or saving up for it.
The thrill of ordering it.
The thrill of opening it.
The letdown that it isn’t that thrilling anymore.

Compromise has to do with making concessions with similarly minded people in service of reaching a common goal.
Conformity has to do with aligning with commonly held conventions and norms.
You’re gonna need to compromise.
But the degree to which you need to conform has everything to do with the clarity of the goal you’re compromising in service of.
