When it’s time for the high dive competition, no one jumps off the lower diving boards claiming, ‘the low dive is plenty high for me’.
If you’re going to be a high diver you’ve got to be willing to go all the way up. That’s the deal. That’s what the high dive is all about. Otherwise don’t get into it.
We look silly when we claim to be a high diver but then when it comes down to it we only jump off the low dive.
The best of. The all stars. The super team. The dream team.
It’s fun and romantic to think that by getting all of the talented people onto the same team that the path will be easy. When the expectation is ‘easy’ but it still turns out to be a rough road, the frustration is exponential.
Talent must be mixed with connection.
Technique must be mixed with presence.
Tenacity must be mixed with shared vision.
»» And when you get the mix right, it’s magical.
If you are looking for chances to connect you will find them all over the place.
You’ll probably have to go first. It might be a little weird. It will be scary. You might not get the response you’re hoping for. You might over share. You might ask the wrong question. Your effort might not get reciprocated.
But it beats the alternative…
If you’re not looking for chances to connect, the depth of your relationships and your relational maturity are are the mercy of others initiative…and your indifference.
There’s no creative running in the Olympics. No style points. No bonus for running the race in an interesting way.
The only thing that matters is how fast you get from here to there.
It might be the most pure sport.
Especially a sprint like the 100 meters.
The clarity is so magnetic. A definite start. A definite finish. And clarity of what goes in between.
