Nightcap 22

If you have an amazing after picture, then worse your before picture is the more valuable it is.

Cigarettes have never been more rebellious…it’s just perfectly clear now who you’re rebelling against.

I’ve heard many car alarms in my day, never seen a car thief.

Both the regular walker and the anxious fast walker always seem to make it across the crosswalk safely.

It’s a good thing boogers don’t smell bad.

Concerning Right

Don’t get distracted by always having to be right.

The only prize for winning that game is loneliness.

There’s a difference between what is true and what is useful.

Another thing concerning right….

Doing things the right way is its own reward.

Doing things the right way doesn’t mean you’re going to get a bigger reward later.

You might. But one doesn’t equal the other. Wish it wasn’t so.

The reward is simply knowing you did things right.

The Loop

The more times your friends tell you about an artist that you still haven’t listened to, the more expensive it is for you to keep not checking out that artist.

By not checking it out you’re out of the loop. But not just any loop. The loop that you subscribe to. The loop that you deeply identify with. The loop of people whose opinions you care about. The loop you have fun with and want to stay in and be connected to.

So not checking out the artist that the people in your loop keep telling you about is costing you something very substantial.

This is why it’s worth doing something, risking something that’s worth talking about. I don’t mean metaphorically, but actually worth bringing up in conversation.

Then the more it gets brought up, the good peer pressure kicks in and the dominos start to fall.

Become an artist where it’s expensive for people in certain loops to keep ignoring you.

***This happens the more famous you get. And also happens the more you know what type of loops like talking about you.

Give And Take

You have to think enough of yourself to know that you have something to give. It’s a lot easier to give when you know you have something that someone else wants that you can give them.

And that’s what the best artists do on stage. They give.

But so many artists are not givers, they are only takers. Takers might look cool (and be successful) but the reason they are taking is because they hope your praise and envy will fill them up.

They don’t know what they have to give, so they take from everyone else. That’s a lonely, confusing road.

Stop being afraid of seeing the thing you have to give. And then once you see it don’t downplay it or diminish it or think ‘well since I have it everyone must have it so it’s just not that great’.

Step into it and deliver. Over and over.
