Starting Without The Instructions

If you start without the instructions (while the instructions are sitting right there) and you mess up…you look like an idiot.

If you start without instructions because there aren’t any instructions and you mess up…you’re off the hook since everyone agrees there should have been instructions.

If you start without instructions or with the instructions and someone comes along who has built the thing you’re wanting to build, it’s a good idea to listen.


Most of what we’re all building doesn’t have instructions.

So sometimes you’re going to look like an idiot.

People will always be willing to let you off the hook.

It’s worth listening to the people who have built what you’re building.

The only thing I had was for this post before today was the title. But it seemed like a good title in light of all the toys that have needed assembly in the last couple days.

So I pasted the title into Text Edit, figuring if I began the physical act of writing the first sentence, the rest would come.

It did.

Searching And Seeing

Finding what we’re looking for doesn’t have as much to do with becoming better at searching as it does becoming better at seeing.

The joy, contentment, peace and freedom we seek is being brought and shown to us. You don’t need to change where you’re looking in order to find it. 

(It’s why a life in the music business can be worth your time.)

It’s the very essence of this blog. It’s why I write it each day. Opening our eyes.

If we start seeing, we might start seeing a little more. And if we continue to see a little more, life continues getting richer.

I hope everyones holiday is deeply rich. Not from a stack of presents, but from the gift of seeing things in a new way.

Someone To See

Someone wants to see us. We want to be seen. We want to see someone(s).

Chewing Gum

No one gets together to chew gum.

And gum is ok with that. It’s what’s being chewed while the people get together to do something else.


I hear people all the time celebrating the fact that more music is being listened to than ever before. They’re probably right…and I think that’s wonderful. But, like chewing gum, more music is being listened to passively than ever before too.

The goal is to find (and build up) the people who listen on purpose, intently, excitedly…perhaps even while chewing gum.

Telling The Difference

There’s a HUGE difference between…

You can’t tell the difference

and

You can’t tell the difference until you get right up close

The first one is professional, the second one is cutting corners and lazy and probably a little selfish.

If you can’t tell the difference between your thing and the real thing, then isn’t it just as good?
