Keeping Up
Keeping up with…

The Jones’
The Kardashian’s

Fashion
Football
The first couple things to consider are…what is the prize for keeping up? And do you want that prize?
But much more important than ‘what are you keeping up with’ is…
What are you leading the charge for?
How Well Does It Tour?
It would be amazing if your grand finale involved you jumping through a twelve foot ring of fire…but it’s going to be tough to take that show on the road.
The type of venues that could get clearance for twelve foot fire are the bigger venues. The bigger ones require lots of ticket sales. Lots of ticket sales require big fan bases in multiple markets. And simply advertising the fire stunt beforehand isn’t going to compel enough new people to purchase tickets.
So it’s a great idea but it doesn’t tour well. (Yet)
But let’s back up…why is the fire thing a good idea?
It’s unexpected
It’s dangerous
You have show you’re a little crazy
If it fails it’s still a great story (and hopefully your burns aren’t too bad)
It makes for a great picture and video
The picture and video are worth sharing
There are other ideas that check all these boxes and will fit into your size venue and budget.
Coming Home
If you never leave home you’ll never experience the joy of coming home.
In the work that I do I get to come home a lot…cause I leave a lot.
When the skyline comes into view driving on 24 or 40 or 65…there’s a new type appreciation that comes into view too.
It feels better to come home than to never leave home at all.
»» It’s probably an appropriate time to add this…some people in this industry leave too much and for too long and aren’t at home when they’re at home. The road is a tricky thing. So are relationships. So take the above message for the optimism it suggests…but remember the road was never meant to be your everything.
Why Me?
If you find yourself ruminating on the dark side of this question…remember…the answers you have for it have never brought you closer to anything good. Even though some of the answers might be true, they’re not helpful.
When ‘why me’ pops up it’s best to simply keep working, keep contributing and keep connecting.
